JACKSON'S "BIRTHDAY PAWTY" 2005 - Sat., Aug. 27

Many of you know our shop's O.G. (Official Greeter), Jackson Godfrey, or Jackson for short. He's a beautiful, sweet golden retriever who turned 6 on Aug. 31, so we decided to throw a "pawty" for him on Sat., Aug. 27th.

Here's a little of Jackson's story: Barb and her husband Pat fell in love with and adopted Jackson from Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (DVGRR) in March 2003. Barb and Pat have been volunteers with DVGRR since 1998. Jackson joined two other golden retrievers already in the household, Tucker & Emma, who is also a DVGRR dog. He walked right in as if he owned the place and it's been a happy household ever since!

He really enjoys his work at Godfrey's, too...he loves greeting you when you come shopping! He knows he looks best lying on the living room carpet at Godfrey's with a woobie in his mouth. And, believe it or not, he's helped sell a toy, bed, collar or two, so he earns his keep!

Because Jackson is a rescued golden retreiver, we decided to host a pawty for him for a couple of reasons: to have some fun, to celebrate his life, and most importantly, to raise some money for DVGRR to continue their good work to help many more homeless goldens.

We had cake for humans, pawty hat biscuits and "pupsicles" for the pooches, and give-aways, too!

Two ladies who make great pooch bandanas donated all of the day's proceeds to DVGRR. Mark Fulton, a fabulous nature/canine photographer from Harrisburg sold his beautiful notecards, donating all of his proceeds to DVGRR, too! Also attending was Andy Loercher, Lancaster County redware potterer with his redware dog breed pieces.  Andy unveiled his new "'heart" themed platter and dish; boy, are they stunning!  They would be fantastic gifts for the dog-lovers in your life.

Our local Planet Dog representative got stuck in traffic coming from Allentown, so he had very little time to spend with us to talk about his company's great products. Next time, John!

The DVGRR Pet Fair team was here to talk with folks about rescue, share information about goldens and how to adopt a golden retriever from DVGRR. They ran some great canine games throughout the day, including the hot dog bobbing contest, canine baseball and the popcorn toss!
Thanks, DVGRR Team, for the fun!

All in all, we raised @ $400 for rescue that day!  Thanks to all who came out, did some shopping with us and shared in the joy!
